The protest in Hamburg had abated little, if at all, around 9:30 p,m.- out of the blue, a vehicle resembling a decorative parade float appeared in the street; no one had seen it coming... "It was just there" explained one witness!
On the float a family, dressed in what would be called like Sunday Best clothing, stood, with a sort of winsome, transcendant expression- "Everybody felt love, just love" right then, continued the witness- everyone grew quiet and still almost immediately, both protesters and police, as they peered with curiosity towards the unusual apparition.
Without much ado, father Trapp (apparently) stood up to a microphone and announced, "We are the Familie Von Trapp, and would like to sing a few songs for you...", at which time they commenced performance of some very clever arrangements of favourite songs of their career! After a while, father Trapp addressed the captivated audience again, "I want to finish up with a special favourite, which we actually did not sing- but which became very popular with a movie about us, Edelweiss!" They then launched into a beautiful, very barmherzig rendition of the favourite... As he neared the conclusion, "Edelweiss, Edelweiss- Bless this homeland Forever!", there was hardly a dry eye in the gathering of spectators, police and protesters alike; some placed their hands over their hearts, apparently quite moved. "Children, be kind to one another" enjoined father Von Trapp, when the performance was finished, "And remember, we're always here when you need us!" he finished- then "They just all kind of vanished" explained the onlooker- "Possibly they sort of zoomed up into the sky; disappeared!"
The astonished onlookers were speechless and awestruck; did not know what to do... It appeared the demonstration conflict would not proceed- but after a little while, as if they were each asking themselves "Maybe we should all go home in peace; forsake all this..."- but as is not uncommon, it was just as if after considering this they exclaimed loudly and resolutely, inwardly, "NAWWHHHH!" and proceeded with the heated demonstration, the police also regaining some pugnaciousness as previously...
