A new movie- a "creative" reenactment of World War II, called "The Fuehrer Goes Too Far"- is getting mixed reviews... most are calling it bizarre, outlandish, obscurely eccentric; one critic stated that, like "The Producers" it could conceivably be a great success, but he's skeptical about the whole idea generally.
An example of the very unusual scenography appears to be designed after an actual film footage which exists, of Hitler addressing a Hitler Jugend-type male who is despondent over their impending doom due to failure: "There, there now, lad" Hitler says, with an affectionate pull of the boy's ear and patting the side of his face: sounding like a cultured, higher-middle or upper class englishman- "We gave it our best, now- didn't we..?!" Then, with an almost saintly aura, gazing briefly upwards, continues "The Master Race will prevail- it just might take some time, like grandmother's cooking!" The distraught boy continues, "But, Mr. Hitler- the enemy is entering the city, we have no defense..." - to which Hitler replies, "Well- just like my grandfather Adolph used to say, "Lamp those pasties; read 'em and weep...!" -life's a poker game, lad!" After a melancholy adjournment, the next scene involves the suicide preparations in the bunker: "An if we've not done weel, havin' an idea the world's as our own cup o' grog up'on demand...." in a heavy irish accent, this actor; "Perhps it's not a good thing we've done- an' now our destruction is surely at hand; I think we've been quite foolish, actually" -this one, british accent, too.... Suddenly The Good Fairy pops out of nowhere, or jumps in, holding her star-crested magic wand aloft: "That's right! You've been very foolish and troublesome- you're all very bad men, and I think you should indeed kill yourselves right now!" -a little like The Good Witch Of The East, in Oz- but not so beautiful and with what would seem a more zany personality... "This won't make you sick, or have nightmares, like that real, historical film footage, true..." added one critic.
